WAITOMO EBIKES (WEBs)

SAFETY OVERVIEW

Important safety information. Please ensure you read this carefully prior to hiring one of our eBikes. Prior to embarking on your eBike adventure we provide a safety briefing that includes going over how to use the eBike, the route you will be riding, emergency contact details, details on the accessories that are provided e.g. first aid kit and depending on what route you’ll be riding, instructions on use of emergency locator beacon.

Riding an eBike is relatively straightforward however they are not without risk. They are heavier than a normal bike due to the battery weight. Depending on what power level you start on, the eBike’s electric power can sometimes surprise you when you start pedalling. A briefing on how to optimise battery life and range is provided prior to your ride.

As there are no dedicated cycle trails in the Waitomo area, you will be riding on both gravel and sealed roads. These roads are well maintained and in the main are relatively quiet with little vehicle traffic. The routes are checked for hazards, road works, farming and forestry operations by WEBs team on a regular basis. Please keep to the left of the road as much as possible and maintain an alertness for oncoming vehicles and vehicles coming from behind. All rides are graded between grades 1-3.

Our e-bikes are designed for your convenience, comfort & safety with 5 power levels aided by low & high gear ranges, walk assist function, an extra wide padded seat, front & rear lights, bike stand and rear bike rack. All of this with the added convenience of being able to step through rather than having to swing your leg over to reach the pedal on the other side of the bike. The e-bikes come equipped with helmet, hi-vis vest (optional), water bottle, cell phone holder with 1st Aid kit, and a rear pannier containing a pump, repair kit, sunscreen, hand sanitiser, emergency blanket and rain poncho. A moderate rate of fitness is helpful.
